ABOUT No12, THE HAVEN

Originally built in the early 1900’s, during which Thorpeness was transformed from a traditional fishing village into a purpose-built holiday destination, the cottage is a perfect example of quintessential Thorpeness. We've retained all of it’s traditional charm despite extensive, yet much needed renovation work that was performed in 2013, to bring this slice of Thorpeness inline with modern needs.

During the renovation work the 1950-1960’s quarter-inch plywood cladding was removed the walls, stripping the building back to its original state. This was followed by the installation of new double-glazed windows that matched the original casement style and utilised the original handmade glass handmade panels, along with much needed draft insulation being installed throughout to meet building regulations standards and keep us warm throughout the cold months.

The biggest addition to the cottage, however, is a new extension with large skylight built to the rear of the building and in the same timber weatherboard style to the outside as the rest of the cottage. With the extension, the cottage now provides a modern kitchen that fits in with the character of the original building, while also allowing the living and dining areas to benefit from extra space.

We hope you like it.
